The 1755 Lisbon Earthquake and How it Almost Totally Destroyed Lisbon

An interesting video presentation about the earthquake that struck Lisbon on November 1st 1755. The event is known as the Great Lisbon Earthquake which occurred in the Kingdom of Portugal on the holy day of All Staints’ Day at morning time. A combination of the earthquake and the tsunami alongside the fires almost destroyed the city. Scientists still argue about the power behind this earthquake. It is believed that the magnitude in the range was around 8.5 – 9 on the magnitude scale. The estimated death toll from Lisbon is argued between 10 000 and 100 000 people.
